Today Nokia took over the top dog spot for the sales of Windows Phone products last quarter. This doesn't surprise anyone. Nokia has been pushing full steam ahead and is (as far as we know) the only vendor that is working exclusively with Microsoft for their smartphone devices. Of course Nokia is still supporting their Symbian OS, but we wouldn't really call that a "smart phone" per say.
The title of #1 Windows Phone vendor came from a research firm called Strategy Analytics. According to the firm, Nokia has a 33% share of the Windows Phone market followed by HTC.. HTC has been having issues across the board as of late, but the company still throws up strong smartphone numbers.
Any handset maker who is actively working with Microsoft's Windows Phone will have issues competing with Nokia on any level. The partnership with Microsoft is very strong and some say that soon, they 2 companies will become one. One a global level, it is important for Microsoft to maintain many different relationships and up to this point has not been successful in releasing their own device (Kin anyone?), however, Google has shown that purchasing a successful mobile division while balancing the relationships of other mobile phone vendors CAN be done.
Microsoft is watching Nokia's Windows phone sales for sure..
